Oregonian Cameron McKirdy appears on VICELAND’s “Abandoned.”  It’s a new travel documentary type show featuring deserted places.  I guided the VICE TV crew around our area, and shared my story.  Producers from British Columbia, Canada filmed the host, Professional Skateboarder Rick McCrank and I discussing preparations for a nuclear disaster, and a tsunami.  VICE and I took my Volkswagon van for a ride along the ocean in Long Beach, Washington looking for shelter, plus debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami.  Over two days we built emergency preparedness kits with ammo boxes to bury in the ground along escape routes, like I have shown on my YouTube Channel called Survival Bros.  We scavenged free health food samples from A Gypsy’s Whimsy, and purchased essential gear items to cache at more stores located in Astoria and Seaside, OR.  The #survival kit I helped McCrank build should help him endure a disaster if he keeps it close by.  I always have my emergency Go-Bag with me.

The highlight of the The Fremont Solstice Fair was a naked bike ride by Solstice Cyclists  

Watch a terrible bicycle accident by a nude rider at the Finish Line.  People were quick to respond, and encouraging.  Fortunately, the painted nudist was wearing a helmet.  It protected her head for sure.  The wings didn’t do much.  

Would you paint your junk and parade downtown?  This event made me want to live at a nudist colony.  There were several organizations trying to lure me to their campground.  It’s on my to-do list.  I will be vandwelling in my Volkswagen van, forget pitching a tent there.

Out of nowhere, my VW Bus is struggling to start.  Everything electrical flickers.  The radio cuts out.  The engine sputters.  Plus, the battery and OXS (oxygen sensor) light came on.  I called Avery’s Air-Cooled in Kelso, WA and they helped me diagnose the problem over the phone.  We figured the issue was a faulty voltage regulator.  Mechanics Jason and Kelly had a $40 Bosch part, and installed the unit for only $29.  But before I got fixed up and back on the road, I was parked on the shoulder of Highway 101, waiting for Classic Towing to get me to another state – Washington.  Thank God for AAA.  I’m on the Premier towing package.  Nothing but the best for my baby.  Funny that I broke down on the way to the repair shop.

This weekend Survival Bros went for a drive up I-5, and then took Spirit Lake Highway to visit majestic Mount St. Helens.  Most of the hiking trails were off limits to us because we had a puppy to acclimate to the outdoors for the first time.  Therefore, we found ourselves at Seaquest State Park, which while splendid, doesn’t have well-maintained paths like the nearby Hummocks Trail closer to the volcano.  So, after breaking a sweat there we continued to climb in elevation, and drove to two breathtaking viewpoints called Elk Rock, and Castle Lake.  I shot the HD video above, and snapped a few pictures.  Our final stop was Clearwater Lake.  It formed after the eruption in 1980.  There’s a relatively flat trail circling the body of water, but again no dogs are allowed.  I was willing to risk a minimum $50 fine, but we’ll just have to trek it another time.  Besides, the sun was setting, and my belly was growling.  At Castle Rock we cruised into C and L Burger Bar for a feast.  I’m talking peanut butter real ice cream milk shakes, fatty elk cheeseburgers, and scalding crinkle cut french fries.  Epic.  It was a complete day, and I look forward to returning to Mount St. Helens when it’s warmer, and all the backpacking trails are open to explore.

Survival Bros decided to help a previously abandoned shelter pup out, and take him for a walk around Lake Sacajawea in Longview, Washington today.  Charlie spends way too much time in his concrete kennel, and was aching for attention, and exercise. The shelter is completely full of dogs right now, and would like to get some adopted out immediately.  Stop by or give them a ring if you need a buddy.

 When we got to The Humane Society of Cowlitz County they asked if we would release a wild, rescued duck too.  I’m a University of Oregon Duck, so of course I helped out.  We put the female in a crate, and drove to it’s home on the water.  She followed us for a ways down the path, but eventually settled in, and got regrouped.  All in a good days work.

I shot this HD video while camping in the Olympic National Forest near Forks Washington.  It’s truly an amazing park.  You must visit.  I tented right near the river, and there’s plenty of challenging hiking trails nearby.  These elk were amazing, and quite noisy.  They were making all kinds of crazy calls.  I wanted to pet one.  Another part of me saw dinner.
