US Forest Service Photo of Terwilliger Fire

By Cameron McKirdy

Welcome to #Survival #Bros. Unfortunately, I have sad news to share with you about Oregon’s latest forest fires. Visit this blog daily for updates on this PNW emergency. Here’s what you need to know:

Cougar Hot Spring is closed for the rest of 2018. It may not open to the public for a year or two. A careless man started the fire there near the trail. 20 people or so escaped the flames. Noboby was hurt then, but later in the week a firefighter was struck by a car while crossing the road in the town of Rainbow, OR.

Here’s #news clips from sources including KEZI in Eugene:

Personal Note: As many readers may know, I lived in these woods. Over the course of four months I managed Cougar Crossing Campground, and worked at Terwilliger Hot Spring. It was paradise. I soaked in the pools alone at sunrise for weeks. Naked. Coffee. It was my home. And now the forest won’t ever be the same. I wish I was there when the fire started. I would have thrown myself on it. I’m grieving. Much of earth is experiencing environmental traumas. Please pray for Our Land, and the people sacrificing to protect her.

Respect FIRE! 🔥

Cameron McKirdy and his Dad battle rapids in their cataraft. This adventure was well planned. Pops did his homework, and scouted the river as best he could. He asked locals a million questions, read books, and consulted his rafting club before getting her wet. The water was high, so it wasn’t a terribly challenging ride, but it was a lot of fun. The Rouge river is next! Take a float down the river with them. %^).
